Job Requirements

  • One year of paid, full-time experience in recreation activities
  • Associates degree in recreation, social services, or related field
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license
  • Ability to direct, evaluate, and supervise the work of assigned personnel
  • Ability to keep cost records and develop annual budget estimates
  • Ability to research, create, plan, and facilitate new programs and special events
  • Ability to review and evaluate program effectiveness
  • Effective communication skills in written and oral form
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree in recreation, social services, or a related field
  • One year of paid, full-time experience in recreation activities
  • Knowledge of program operations, special event planning, and facility operations
  • Understanding of principles of supervision and training
  • Familiarity with department policies and basic accounting practices
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Job Duties

  • Develop and facilitate recreation programs including researching opportunities, creating work plans, supervising staff, and evaluating programs
  • Plan, facilitate, and evaluate community-wide special events
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff
  • Initiate and approve recruitment, orientation, and placement of program volunteers
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, community organizations, and customers
  • Maintain financial, personnel, program, project, and volunteer records
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitor program revenue and expenditures
  • Seek sponsorships and in-kind contributions to offset program costs
  • Coordinate facility usage
  • Perform related duties as required
