Job Description

The Frederick County Division of Parks & Recreation is a dedicated government agency focused on the preservation and management of natural and historic resources while providing accessible park facilities and recreational programs to all residents of Frederick County. It is committed to delivering high-quality recreational services that enhance the overall well-being and lifestyle of the community. Through a wide variety of innovative activities and programs, the Division aims to meet the diverse recreational needs of the county’s population, fostering lifelong learning, inclusion, and enjoyment for individuals and families alike. As a key arm of local government, the Division plays a vital role in promoting active and healthy living in Frederick County by maintaining safe and well-operated parks and recreation centers that serve as community hubs for sport, leisure, and social engagement.

The Recreation Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position that works 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., including regular evening and weekend hours to align with the operational schedule of park-school-recreation centers. This role is essential in coordinating the operations of recreation facilities and expanding program offerings within targeted park-school communities. The Recreation Coordinator ensures the safety, maintenance, and smooth functioning of assigned facilities and acts as a liaison between community organizations, third-party users, and the Parks Division to facilitate space rental and event coordination. This position is responsible for managing daily operations, including program development, scheduling, instruction, and supervising part-time recreational staff. The coordinator actively leads groups in recreational classes and supports community engagement through collaboration with volunteers, contractors, and local organizations to promote awareness and participation in recreational activities.

The role also requires involvement in budgeting, lesson planning, equipment inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols in coordination with Frederick County Public Schools. Additional responsibilities include performing custodial and maintenance duties, responding to public inquiries, and assisting with facility operations during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position offers a competitive compensation package with full benefits, including leave accrual, health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing the accessibility and quality of recreation programs, thereby improving the quality of life for Frederick County residents. This opportunity is ideal for those passionate about community service, recreational program management, and public engagement within a vibrant and well-supported government agency dedicated to parks and recreation.
