Job Description

This position is not a summer position and is integral to the operation and management of community centers. The hiring establishment is a municipal or county park and recreation department dedicated to providing safe, inclusive, and engaging community services and activities. Job Requirements

  • No minimum education required
  • no minimum experience required
  • previous experience as recreation specialist, receptionist, or groundskeeper preferred
  • valid state operator/driver's license or ability to obtain one
  • physical ability to lift moderate weights (12-20 pounds) and perform outdoor tasks
  • ability to communicate orally
  • ability to use equipment such as mowers, blowers, and trimmers
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • availability for part-time shifts
  • ability to work under varying environmental conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of programs for adults and children
  • proficiency in first aid and CPR
  • good oral and written communication skills
  • ability to work independently
  • mastery of record keeping and filing
  • familiarity with departmental and county policies
  • ability to operate landscaping and maintenance equipment
  • certification or ability to obtain valid state driver’s license

Job Duties

  • Interact with co-workers and community center participants
  • enforce rules and regulations for safety
  • monitor activities as a recreation specialist
  • maintain accurate attendance and participation records
  • perform receptionist duties including answering calls and assisting with rentals
  • assist with fax transactions and mailings
  • conduct groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, raking, watering, and planting
  • operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment
  • communicate effectively with community members and supervisors
  • keep facility, equipment, and supplies clean and orderly
