Job Description
Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, operates under the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Programs Branch, specifically within the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services. The command is situated at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH) in Honolulu, HI, providing essential community services to Navy personnel and their families. The ITT (Information, Tickets, and Travel) Facilities form a vital component of the MWR program. This program aims to enhance the quality of life for service members, veterans, and their families through thoughtfully designed recreational activities, community events, and support services that foster morale and welfare in the military community.
This position is designed to be a critical part of the ITT program, focusing on delivering excellent customer service to patrons by managing ticket sales and performing a variety of supportive functions. Primarily, the role involves interacting directly with the community, assisting with recreational tickets, and ensuring seamless access to entertainment and travel opportunities for military families and personnel. The job requires a balance of administrative proficiency, interpersonal skills, and knowledge of the recreational programs available within the Navy MWR system.
The successful candidate will have a nuanced understanding of the Navy MWR mission, including the scope of community recreation activities and their suitability for diverse demographics, including various age groups and interests. This role also demands a proactive approach to organizing, planning, and administering special events and entertainment activities that contribute to the overall welfare of the community. The individual must be able to work independently, make informed decisions, and maintain effective communication, both orally and in writing.
This employment is classified as 'Other' in terms of type, indicating a specialized, possibly non-standard employment category within the NAF programs. There is no specified salary range attached to this position, which suggests compensation may be determined by internal scales or individual negotiation within the NAF framework. Candidates must be prepared to work irregular hours, including early shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to meet the needs of the community and program schedules.
Physical demands include guiding and instructing participants in various activities that may require considerable exertion, including walking, standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items up to 40 pounds, with occasional need to lift heavier objects. The work environment varies between indoor office settings with appropriate facilities and outdoor venues for events and outings, necessitating flexibility and adaptability to variable working conditions.
The role also involves strict adherence to training and certification requirements, such as the C.A.R.E. (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively) training, Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification, and a Food Handler certification. Candidates must also possess a valid state driver’s license and be capable of obtaining a license validation for transporting patrons off-base within 90 days of employment. These qualifications ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and align with Navy policies and community standards.
Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about community service and recreation within a military context. It requires a blend of customer service expertise, organizational skills, physical stamina, and a deep commitment to enhancing the morale and welfare of Navy personnel and their families through engaging recreational activities and support services.
