Job Description
The City of Waukesha, located in Wisconsin, is a vibrant community known for its commitment to providing excellent public services and recreational opportunities to its residents and visitors. The city's Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life in Waukesha by organizing various community events and maintaining green spaces that invite people of all ages to engage in outdoor activities. Among these events are the Neighborhood Beer Gardens and the popular Waukesha Oktoberfest, both of which offer residents enjoyable ways to socialize and celebrate local culture.
The City of Waukesha is currently seeking dedicated Recreation Assistants for the Fermented Malt Beverage Concessions to assist during these special events in 2026. This role is integral to ensuring a smooth and courteous service experience at the beverage concessions, which serve alcoholic beverages responsibly to the public. This is a seasonal, part-time position with an hourly rate of $17, designed for individuals aged 18 years and older. The role involves working at the Neighborhood Beer Garden operations scheduled for August 27-29, 2026, and September 10-12, 2026, as well as the Waukesha Oktoberfest held on September 25 and 26, 2026. Shifts are mostly in the afternoons and evenings, with some availability for setup and teardown days.
The primary function of the Recreation Assistant is customer service at the beverage concessions, which includes handling money properly, operating cash registers, using computer programs related to sales, and serving fermented malt beverages while following all legal protocols for alcohol service. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing concession products for sale, maintaining sanitary conditions consistent with health department standards, and ensuring the concession area is clean and orderly throughout their shift.
This position also requires caretaking duties such as performing daily accounting at the shift’s end, preparing deposits, and physically maintaining the concession stand. The Recreation Assistant must be vigilant in practicing and enforcing age-verification procedures such as wrist-banding, ensuring that alcoholic beverages are served only to patrons who meet legal drinking age requirements. Additionally, employees must observe and enforce facility rules, provide emergency care within the limits of their training, and participate in all mandatory paid training sessions.
Overall, this role is essential to the City of Waukesha’s ability to host safe, enjoyable, and well-organized community events that foster local pride and contribute to the social fabric of the city. This opportunity is perfect for individuals looking to gain experience in event service, hospitality, or customer relations in a lively and community-focused environment.
