Candidates applying for this position should expect to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the demands of community programming and events.

The Recreation Assistant is considered an essential public service role with a strong emphasis on customer service skills, communication, and community involvement. Specific duties include assisting with participant check-in, crowd flow management, program setup and breakdown, record keeping, registration assistance, and providing courteous and professional interaction with the public, program participants, instructors, and volunteers. The Assistant also contributes to program research, development, and evaluation to ensure continuous improvement and relevance to community needs. Familiarity with municipal government processes, recreation programming, and event management is preferred but not required.

Candidates should be comfortable using modern office technologies such as Microsoft Office, web browsers, digital cameras, and other standard office equipment. Physical demands of the role include the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 to 40 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual focus.
