Job Description

The Arts and Crafts Center is a vibrant community facility dedicated to fostering creativity and artistic expression on base. Renowned for offering a broad spectrum of artistic opportunities, this center serves as a hub for both children and adults who wish to immerse themselves in various creative pursuits. The center hosts a diverse range of arts and craft classes, including popular events like "Paint and Sip" nights, which allow participants to explore their artistic talents in a relaxed and social environment. Additionally, the facility showcases and sells handcrafted items created by local artisans, including painted Alaska-themed wooden bears, uniquely designed saws, other Alaska-inspired crafts, crocheted goods, and moose-shaped planters, enriching the local cultural heritage and providing a marketplace for local creators.

This position at the Arts and Crafts Center is ideal for individuals passionate about arts and crafts, who enjoy working with the public, and who are eager to contribute to a community-oriented setting. Essential job duties include facilitating art classes, assisting customers with the selection and purchase of craft supplies and finished artisan products, and supporting various workshops and special events. The role requires a solid background in artistic techniques such as ceramic molding and painting, fabric crafts, calligraphy, engraving, glass crafts, and mat cutting. Candidates must be adept at understanding measurements and basic mathematics to assist in the crafting process effectively.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and prepared to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends. Physical endurance and safety awareness are critical in this role, as it involves standing, walking, stooping, and handling materials that may pose minor occupational hazards such as metal and wood splinters, adhesives, paint fumes, cuts, burns, and bruises. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is also necessary. This position is open to all applicants; however, individuals with Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran status, or Transition Hiring Preference will be given priority in consideration. Employment is categorized as Other, with applications reviewed weekly on Fridays at 8:00 AM until the position is filled.

Overall, the role at the Arts and Crafts Center not only demands creative skills and technical proficiency but also a friendly and clear communication style to engage effectively with the public. It presents a unique opportunity for those looking to combine artistic expertise with community service in a supportive and dynamic environment. Candidates interested in applying should ensure they meet the experience requirements and submit proof of eligibility by the application deadline on 05/12/2026. Dedicated to providing an inspiring place for community engagement, the center values volunteer experiences and relevant professional backgrounds equally, promoting diverse and inclusive hiring practices.
