The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at CBC Gulfport, MS, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for military service members, their families, and civilian employees through a comprehensive range of recreational programs and facilities. Job Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check
- Must complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of identification
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations
- Must have a valid State driver’s license to operate motor vehicles
- Must have salary sent to a financial institution by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Must be at least 16 years old
- National and state background checks required for youth programs
- Must have current Lifeguard, CPR/First Aid certifications and upload proof
- Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service
- Selectee must be suitable for federal employment
- Selectee may be required to complete a probationary period
- Social Security Card required
- Must satisfactorily complete E-VERIFY check
- A favorable background is required
- Experience and/or education must be supported by resume
- CERTIFICATES MUST BE INCLUDED WITH APPLICATION

Job Qualifications
- Specialized experience as a lifeguard
- Knowledge of pool and waterfront safety rules
- Knowledge of the beach environment, marine life, and beach water hazards (Waterfront only)
- Knowledge of DoD, DON, and CNIC policies governing aquatic assessment testing and certifications
- Knowledge of MWR policies and procedures regarding aquatic facilities and waterfront operations
- Ability to identify hazards or hazardous situations promptly
- Ability to provide instruction on water safety, facility rules, and enforce them tactfully but firmly
- Ability to conduct routine safety inspections of pool facilities
- Knowledge of pool chemical testing and adjustment
- Skilled in surf lifesaving techniques and radio communication
- Ability to control large groups of people
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Job Duties
- Responsible for the safety of swimmers in the pool
- Remain alert and continuously observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons
- Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations, assist swimmers having difficulty and rescue those in trouble
- Perform rescue work and when necessary, render first aid until such time as qualified doctor or other emergency personnel are present
- In case of a serious accident will call for an ambulance
- Prepare complete accident report
- Alert supervisor of unusual circumstances
- Perform any necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure proper standards of cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities
- Inspect pool and surrounding area ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times
- Check chlorine and PH levels on a scheduled basis
- Immediately communicate problems or concerns of the aquatic environment to the aquatics manager
- Determine patron eligibility and provides quality customer service to patrons
- Answer questions and provides program information to patrons
- May assist with scheduled pool parties after hours of operation or with a base wide special event
- Maintain daily logs and records
- Perform other duties as assigned
