The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at NCBC Gulfport's Liberty Center is dedicated to providing a wide range of recreational, leisure, and support services to the community and military personnel. Located at the NCBC Gulfport facility, this department is a vital part of the base's quality of life initiatives, offering activities and events that enhance morale and foster a sense of community among service members and their families. The MWR Department operates various programs including special events, community outings, party and picnic equipment rentals, resale tickets, leisure skill classes, outdoor recreation, bowling, movies, fitness, and sports programs.
This particular position within the Liberty Center of the MWR Department is focused on supporting a diverse array of responsibilities related to these programs and services. The role involves assisting with MWR special events and command events, providing valuable information and resources to customers, handling equipment rentals for parties and picnics, managing resale ticket operations, and facilitating leisure and skill-building classes. Additionally, this position supports outdoor recreational activities and various fitness and sports programs, including bowling and movies.
The individual in this role serves as an essential point of contact for customers, possessing a good understanding of the MWR Department offerings to effectively answer questions, provide guidance, or refer customers to appropriate activities. The job requires proficient computer skills, including keyboarding and operating point of sale systems, along with the ability to perform basic computer and arithmetic operations. Responsibilities also extend to maintaining facility cleanliness through basic custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
Given the nature of the work, the role demands excellent communication abilities both verbally and in writing, ensuring that customer needs are identified and addressed timely and professionally. This position is suitable for individuals with little to no experience, as the preferred general experience is 0-3 months or a high school diploma or equivalent, though these are not strict requirements. The organization encourages applicants to highlight their relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities clearly and accurately in their resume. Experience in customer service, basic computer operation, and familiarity with recreation programs will be advantageous.
Employment with the MWR Department at NCBC Gulfport involves commitment to federal employment standards, including suitability checks, selective service registration (for males), participation in direct deposit pay programs, and completion of an employment verification process. Candidates are expected to comply with government facility access requirements by having proper identification such as a REAL ID or passport. Additionally, this position may require a probationary period and a favorable background check.
Overall, this is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in community and recreational services, looking to contribute to the morale and welfare of military personnel and their families.
