Job Description
JWCH Institute, Inc. is a dedicated healthcare organization known for its commitment to providing compassionate and comprehensive services to underserved populations. Located in downtown Los Angeles, JWCH Institute, Inc., in collaboration with Wesley Health Centers, manages programs that address the needs of vulnerable individuals, including those experiencing homelessness. With an emphasis on harm reduction and holistic care, the organization fosters an inclusive environment that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of its clients. Employing a multidisciplinary team of social workers, case managers, and healthcare professionals, JWCH works tirelessly to improve the lives of people through various community-based initiatives and housing projects.
The Front Desk Receptionist position at JWCH represents a vital role within the Pathway Home Housing Project, a Housing For Health (HFH) funded initiative. Under the direction of the Program Manager, this full-time role requires managing the front lobby desk in a professional and welcoming manner. The position is integral to the smooth operation of the Cecil Hotel-Safe Landing site, serving as the initial point of contact for visitors, clients, and staff. The Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for greeting visitors warmly, directing them appropriately, managing incoming telephone calls, and ensuring security and safety within program spaces both indoors and outdoors. This role operates 24/7, which necessitates a flexible schedule and the ability to work efficiently under diverse conditions.
Serving a client base primarily consisting of People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH), many with behavioral or substance use challenges, the role demands empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and a compassionate approach. Adopting the Harm Reduction Model, the Receptionist plays a critical part in supporting the success of clients by maintaining a safe, orderly, and respectful environment. Beyond routine reception duties, the role involves conducting security checks, monitoring surveillance, facilitating communication across departments, and assisting with administrative tasks such as intake documentation and note-taking. In addition, the Receptionist must protect confidential patient information and actively participate in safety and quality improvement programs.
This position is crucial in ensuring that the organization’s commitment to respectful and effective patient care is upheld. It requires not only technical skills related to office management and communication but also sensitivity towards the unique challenges faced by the client population. JWCH Institute, Inc. offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package for employees working over 30 hours per week, including medical, dental, vision coverage, paid time off, and retirement plans. Joining JWCH means becoming part of a mission-driven team striving to make a difference in the lives of those most in need, embracing diversity, and fostering a culture of mutual respect and continuous improvement.
