Job Description

The Salvation Army is a globally recognized non-profit and faith-based organization committed to providing aid and support to communities in need. Founded on Christian principles of compassion and service, The Salvation Army operates a vast network of programs aimed at assisting vulnerable populations, including disaster relief, homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, and youth services. With its strong presence worldwide and rich history dating back to the 19th century, The Salvation Army has developed a reputation for impactful community support and holistic care. It brings together volunteers and employees to foster positive changes within society through faith-driven initiatives and practical assistance.

The Salvation Army's Tyler, TX branch located at 633 N. Broadway Ave is seeking a dedicated Receptionist to contribute to the smooth operation of its facility. This role is critical in managing front-office responsibilities and serving as the first point of contact for visitors, clients, and callers. The Receptionist will answer incoming telephone calls courteously, direct them appropriately, and provide precise information regarding the organization’s operations and services. Handling routine clerical tasks like typing, filing, and maintaining accurate telephone lists are also part of this position’s duties.

The role requires interacting professionally with clients and visitors, greeting and announcing their arrival, and facilitating their access to relevant departments. Additionally, the Receptionist oversees communication protocols by ensuring clear recording and timely distribution of messages via telephone or email. Security monitoring of the entrance and parking areas adds an important layer of responsibility, safeguarding the facility and assisting with overall visitor management.

Beyond direct reception duties, the Receptionist will support administrative tasks such as preparing donor acknowledgment letters, managing special project assistance during seasonal campaigns (like Christmas or Angel Tree programs), and maintaining the reception area's neatness and welcoming appearance. The person in this position will also contribute to stock management by replenishing materials such as the War Cry publication, helping maintain operational efficiency.

Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED coupled with at least two years of experience working with telephone systems or performing similar administrative functions. They should demonstrate good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a faith-based nonprofit environment. The Salvation Army encourages a welcoming and inclusive work atmosphere, emphasizing equal opportunity employment without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, or disability.

This part-time or full-time role (depending on availability and organizational needs) offers the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause by ensuring smooth office operations and excellent visitor relations. Interested applicants are urged to apply within the specified application window and join The Salvation Army team dedicated to making a compassionate difference in Tyler, Texas.
