As a leading health department, THD offers a broad range of services designed to support the health of individuals and families across Tulsa and its surrounding regions. The department operates multiple health center locations and serves a diverse population, emphasizing prevention, health education, and access to medical services. Known for its commitment to inclusivity and quality care, the Tulsa Health Department continually seeks dedicated professionals to join its team and contribute to its mission of promoting public health and safety.
The Receptionist position within the Tulsa Health Department plays a crucial role as the initial point of contact for visitors, clients, and phone interactions. This role is essential in creating a warm, welcoming, and efficient environment, ensuring that every interaction reflects the department's values and dedication to service. Receptionists may be stationed at one of the main Health Center locations or serve primarily as phone receptionists, depending on site assignments. Flexibility is a key aspect of this role, as receptionists may be required to provide coverage across various locations to support operational efficiencies.
The primary responsibilities of the Receptionist include warmly greeting guests, answering and routing phone calls, managing the reception area, scheduling meeting rooms, and offering accurate information about the department's programs, services, and locations. The Receptionist is also responsible for supporting various clerical duties that help maintain a smooth workflow within the department. A strong emphasis is placed on delivering excellent customer service with professionalism, courtesy, and diplomacy, facilitating positive experiences for both the public and internal teams.
This role demands an individual with strong communication skills, basic computer proficiency, excellent time management, and interpersonal abilities. The position requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English to effectively serve the community's diverse needs. Working knowledge of office procedures and the ability to follow oral and written instructions is necessary to perform the role successfully.
Working as a Receptionist at the Tulsa Health Department offers an opportunity to be part of a meaningful public health mission, interacting with a wide range of individuals including clients, Board of Health members, public officials, and community agency representatives. This dynamic role demands adaptability, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with the possibility of extended hours during seasonal events such as Back to School or flu season.
Joining the Tulsa Health Department as a Receptionist means contributing directly to public health initiatives by ensuring every visitor and caller experiences a positive, seamless interaction. This position reports to the Customer Service Supervisor and holds responsibility for assigned computer hardware and software. The work environment is office-based with moderate to high noise and frequent interruptions, requiring the ability to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining a calm and approachable demeanor. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
