The receptionist role at RWJ New Brunswick, part of RWJBarnabas Health, is a vital position within the Concierge Department at the main hospital located at One Robert Wood Johnson Place, New Brunswick, NJ. This per diem, hourly position works primarily day shifts including Monday through Friday with rotating weekends and holiday schedules. The hourly pay range is $18.25 to $22.27, reflecting the candidate's education, skills, and experience.
In this role, the Receptionist maintains high standards of customer service at the lobby reception desk and other designated areas. They serve as the front line of contact, demonstrating positive guest relations toward patients, visitors, and staff alike. Responsibilities include greeting patients and visitors in a courteous manner, offering accurate information and directions, and anticipating the needs of those they serve. The Receptionist is expected to exhibit proficiency in computer usage while ensuring telephone calls are answered promptly and handled professionally with telephone courtesy.
Further, the Receptionist must have a general knowledge of all departments throughout the hospital, understand the hospital’s patient privacy policies, and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills for diverse patient populations including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Additional duties include checking and assigning vendor passes, verifying employee ID badges, monitoring and reporting suspicious activity to security, and assisting in the training and supervision of volunteers assigned to the information desk.
This position requires sensitivity, tact, and discretion when handling volunteer coordination and patient information. The Receptionist also supports other functions pertaining to reception services and security, adapting as needed to department requirements and changes in duties. Job Qualifications

- Monitors and reports suspicious activity to security
- Assists in the training and supervision of volunteers assigned at the Info desk
- Demonstrates sensitivity and tact in dealing with volunteers
- Assists with any other functions which pertain to the Reception Services and Security department
