As part of the Peoria Unified School District, the school emphasizes comprehensive education and community involvement. The district is known for its commitment to excellence in all areas, including food services that ensure students receive nutritious and balanced meals during their school day. The Food Service Department operates efficiently to provide high-quality food preparation and service, contributing significantly to the overall student experience at the school.
The Receiving Kitchen Cook position at Raymond S Kellis High School is a vital role within the Food Service team. This role is responsible for various food preparation and serving tasks that ensure smooth operation of the school cafeteria. The position operates under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager and involves direct interaction with the food preparation process, from pulling food from the freezer, following recipes accurately, to preparing and cooking entrees and vegetables. The Receiving Kitchen Cook also manages the serving line, fruit and vegetable bar, and assists customers during meal times.
This role requires a hands-on approach to food service, including cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, utensils, and cafeteria spaces. It also entails completing daily logs and production worksheets, supporting the reconciliation of deposit and end-of-day paperwork, and helping with inventory management such as receiving deliveries and rotating food supplies. The position is classified under a 9-month term of employment, reflecting the school calendar, with a salary classification of 8. Applicants must be prepared to engage in a physically active job, often working outside normal hours, and handle lifting supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
The Receiving Kitchen Cook should be knowledgeable about federal, state, county, and city regulations relevant to food service and public health, as well as the specific policies of the Peoria Unified School District. Strong skills in customer service, teamwork, basic math for recipe calculations, and computer operation are important for success in this role. The position demands reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy food preparation environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with food service experience who are looking to contribute to a school community and gain valuable experience in a structured, rewarding setting. Providing nutritious meals that support student health and learning, this role helps uphold the standards of excellence the school district is known for. The Receiving Kitchen Cook will play a crucial part in creating a positive dining environment and ensuring students have access to timely, appealing meals.
