The role of a Fleet Service Clerk at American Airlines is an essential position responsible for the handling, transporting, and documenting of baggage and cargo to ensure the smooth operation of flights and ground services. This role involves physically demanding tasks such as moving baggage and cargo of various weights to and from aircraft, operating equipment like belt loaders, towing and pushback of aircraft, servicing aircraft with ground power, air conditioning, lavatories, and water ports, and cleaning interiors when necessary. Fleet Service Clerks also position beverage and luggage carts around the ramp area and work in various outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to engine noise and fumes. The role requires flexibility with shifts that may include irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Fleet Service Clerks report punctually to assigned stations and must adhere to company policies, safety procedures, and government regulations such as those from the DOT, FAA, and TSA. The position may also involve additional duties depending on airport size, including aircraft de-icing and catering services. To be successful, candidates need a high school diploma or GED, the ability to lift and move heavy items, basic computer proficiency, strong communication skills, and a cooperative attitude. They must hold a valid driver’s license, secure airport or customs security badges as necessary, and pass pre-employment screenings including drug tests, background checks, fingerprinting, and postal service background checks.
