- experience saddling and handling race horses
- knowledge of principles and practices of equipment maintenance
- knowledge of thoroughbred racing

- knowledge of racing operations and equipment management
- understanding of thoroughbred racing and scoring
- ability to support jockeys and trainers

- knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
- ability to prepare reports and interpret policies
Job Duties
- Prepare and organize each rider for various races
- set out all equipment including helmets, whips, boots
- make riders saddle available for weigh out time
- assist trainers in saddling horses prior to races
- monitor horse racing equipment such as saddles, girths, blinkers
- remove tack from horses after races and take to jockeys room
- clean and maintain saddles, boots, and other equipment
- provide racing forms for jockeys, mark programs with scratches and highlighted mounts
- attend and participate in professional meetings
- maintain awareness of thoroughbred racing trends
- perform related duties as required
