The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) role at AdventHealth is a critical position within the healthcare team, offering hands-on patient care in a home health setting based at Merriam, Kansas. This full-time, day-weekend shift position involves administering medication, wound care, ostomy care, and conducting diagnostic tests like EKG, spirometry, and pulse oximetry under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. The role requires a proactive approach to patient education, clinical documentation, and participation in performance improvement programs. The LPN supports the healthcare team by providing direct care efficiently and with flexibility, including weekend and after-hours coverage, demonstrating effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues. Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited licensed practical nursing program
  • Licensed practical nurse (LPN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification
  • Ability to make mature independent judgments and decisions
  • Background check meets organizational guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility to interact positively with associates
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize under stress
  • Proficient in English language
  • Must be able to perform venipuncture
  • Availability to work weekends and after-hours
  • Team oriented and customer service focused

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited school of licensed practical nursing
  • Licensed practical nurse (LPN) certification
  • Basic life support (BLS) CPR certification
  • Knowledge of practical nursing theory, modalities, treatments, and skills
  • Proficient in English language
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under stressful conditions
  • Team and customer service oriented
  • Venipuncture skills preferred
  • Knowledge of Point of Care software preferred
  • IV certification preferred
  • Driver's license preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop professional and clinical skills through staff development meetings and educational activities
  • Participate in review processes and the agency performance improvement program
  • Provide patient education, medication administration, wound dressing changes, and ostomy care as directed
  • Display flexibility in assignment changes and participate in weekend, after-hours coverage, and call rotation
  • Report pertinent observations to attending physician and RN and implement changes in patient care plan
  • Communicate changes to appropriate members of the home health care team
  • Maintain clinical record information according to standards
  • Provide direct patient care responsibilities efficiently under RN direction
  • Perform treatments within scope and administer medications
  • Assess patients during clinical check-in and document medical information
  • Administer treatments, medications, and follow-up assessments ordered by the provider
  • Perform diagnostic and occupational medicine testing including EKG, spirometry, audiometry, titmus, and pulse oximetry
  • Collect data specific to patient age and contribute to care plans
  • Receive and implement physician orders with RN co-signature
