Joby Aviation is currently seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to join their quality assurance team, focusing on composite material and parts inspection for their VTOL electric aircraft. This role involves performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections to ensure that all composite materials and components meet the company’s rigorous quality standards. The quality assurance activities are critical to baselining hardware design efforts and advancing towards production-ready aircraft. Compensation includes a competitive base pay range of $24 to $34 per hour combined with Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), reflecting the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Job Requirements

  • A high-school diploma or GED and minimum of 3 years experience in composite inspection or fabrication and mechanical inspection
  • Must know basic quality terms, definitions and concepts
  • Must understand types of measurement, measurement terminology and the different types of measurement scales
  • Must know the difference between accuracy and precision and be able to select the appropriate measuring tools and techniques
  • Must know how to measure using surface plate layouts and other hand tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Must be able to identify/recognize inspection errors/nonconformances and initiate corrective action
  • Must have basic calibration knowledge
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and know definitions of critical, major and minor characteristics
  • Must be able to use inspection planning tools and perform a product audit
  • Determine sample size for lots
  • Pull random samples
  • Understand different testing methods
  • Understand traceability (product, material and calibration)
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and perform measurement conversions
  • Be able to solve for x
  • Add and subtract degrees, minutes, and seconds
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of on-the-job aerospace experience
  • General knowledge of ASME Y14.5M
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Understanding of the x, y, z coordinate system
  • Basic knowledge of statistical terms and techniques
  • Ability to plot data and recognize out-of-control conditions
  • Basic knowledge of plan-do-check-act (PDCA)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector Certificate

Job Duties

  • Participate in the development of the quality inspection system
  • Perform incoming inspection on supplied composite material
  • Perform in-process inspection during the layup process for composite material
  • Perform final inspection on completed composite parts
  • Perform final inspection on the completed Work Order paperwork package
  • Perform adhoc part and process inspections
