Job Description
Joby Aviation is a pioneering aerospace company that has been dedicated to revolutionizing urban transportation since its inception in 2009. Their vision is to create a piloted air taxi capable of vertical takeoffs and quiet flight over congested cityscapes, providing an innovative alternative to traditional ground transportation. This cutting-edge technology aims to reconnect people with the things that matter most, saving time otherwise lost in traffic and opening new possibilities for urban mobility. The company operates at the forefront of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft development, having designed and tested multiple generations of prototype aircraft. These efforts position Joby Aviation as a leader in the emerging field of electric air taxis, with ambitions not only to perfect their aircraft but also to certify it for commercial flight, scale their manufacturing operations, and launch their first commercial services to the public. The culture at Joby Aviation is characterized by hardworking, talented, and proactive team members who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and hands-on work environment. They foster innovation and encourage contributions that advance the future of aerial mobility. Joining Joby means becoming part of a visionary team aiming to reshape transportation and impact lives on a global scale.
The role available at Joby Aviation is for a Quality Inspector specializing in composites, particularly within the 2nd shift. This position is a critical component of the company’s quality assurance team, tasked with ensuring the highest standards in the production of composite materials and parts for VTOL electric aircraft. The Quality Inspector will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections at various stages including incoming material checks, in-process evaluations during composite layup, and final quality verifications of completed parts. Additionally, this role involves scrutinizing completed work order paperwork packages to ensure compliance and accuracy. The quality inspection activities performed will play a foundational role in benchmarking the company’s hardware design and development efforts and will help pave the path toward the production of aircraft ready for certification and commercial deployment. The position demands familiarity with quality terms, measurement techniques, and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and surface plates, alongside an ability to interpret blueprints and documentation identifying critical product characteristics. An ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, knowledgeable about mechanical and composite inspection practices, and comfortable working collaboratively in a team-focused setting. The compensation for this role combines hourly base pay ranging from $20 to $29 with the opportunity to earn Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), aligning the employee’s success with the company’s growth. Moreover, Joby Aviation provides a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, paid time off, retirement 401(k) plan with company match, employee stock purchase plan, disability coverage, and life insurance. This is an excellent opportunity for dedicated individuals eager to contribute to a fast-growing aerospace company making transformative strides in urban air mobility.
