Job Description

Vulcan Materials Company stands as the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates and a significant manufacturer of aggregates-based construction materials, including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. With a robust presence across the United States, Vulcan is a cornerstone in the construction industry, contributing essential materials that help build infrastructure critical to daily life. From roads and schools to hospitals, airports, and housing, the company plays a vital role in shaping America’s future by providing high-quality materials necessary for safe, reliable, and durable construction projects. Joining Vulcan means embarking on more than just a career journey; it signifies becoming part of a dedicated team focused on making a lasting impact on communities nationwide.

This company promotes a vibrant and dynamic culture that encourages career development, rewards excellence, and values diversity at every level. Vulcan’s philosophy—referred to as the Vulcan Way—underscores the commitment to integrity and doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time. Recently, Vulcan Materials Company has transitioned back to 100% in-office and onsite work, emphasizing the critical role that face-to-face collaboration plays in fostering innovation and strengthening employee engagement. The company recognizes that the core of its continued success lies in the seamless connection and commitment among team members, cultivating an inclusive culture where all voices are heard and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

The role being offered is focused on quality control within Vulcan’s production processes. The position entails conducting routine testing of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, and finished products to ensure compliance with stringent quality standards at multiple stages — from production through shipment to arrival at the job site. The quality control professional adheres to recognized testing methods, including those developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the Department of Transportation (DOT). This role requires meticulous documentation and reporting of test results in a timely fashion while maintaining accuracy and interpreting critical data.

Beyond testing, responsibilities extend to maintaining laboratory standards, including housekeeping and equipment calibration, as well as troubleshooting product-related inquiries. Inspecting and monitoring stockpiles, material sources, and plant equipment form a critical part of ensuring production quality and operational safety. Immediate reporting of material contamination or equipment concerns to management is essential, alongside performing regular equipment inspections to maximize production efficiency and minimize downtime.

Vulcan Materials Company places strong emphasis on safety awareness, particularly related to construction and mining site hazards, demanding that associates have proven knowledge of industry safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in mathematics, capable of performing simple to moderately complex calculations, and will be comfortable working with computerized equipment and technology platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google tools, Oracle Business Environment, and other relevant software.

This position offers a competitive hourly base salary ranging from $20.00 to $23.00, exclusive of discretionary bonuses or equity packages. Compensation is carefully considered based on skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data. Vulcan strongly values a diverse workforce and provides equal employment opportunities irrespective of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or disability. Inclusivity extends to ensuring freedom from discrimination related to medical needs arising from pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions.

Working at Vulcan means joining a company culture described as competitive yet trusting, promoting teamwork, open-mindedness, and open communication. Employees enjoy meaningful work where every contribution impacts the community at large. Health and safety are paramount, with the company leading industry standards to protect all personnel. Employees benefit from comprehensive health plans, paid time off including vacation, personal floating days, and holidays, as well as retirement plans with company match. Professional growth is supported through extensive training and development programs designed to help employees achieve their long-term career aspirations.
