Job Description
The American Red Cross is a renowned humanitarian organization dedicated to providing emergency assistance, disaster relief, and education in communities across the United States. As the world's largest humanitarian network, the organization is built on a foundation of compassion, diversity, and unity in purpose. For over a century, the American Red Cross has been committed to helping people prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies of all kinds. Their deep mission and broad impact offer employees a remarkable opportunity to contribute to saving lives, supporting communities, and making a tangible difference worldwide. This organization values the vitality and dedication of its workforce, offering a collaborative environment where every individual is recognized and respected. It fosters a culture of continuous learning, empowerment, and meaningful work where success is measured not just by operational metrics but by the number of lives touched and improved.
Joining the American Red Cross means becoming part of a movement that truly matters. The position of QC Lab Technologist plays a critical role within the Blood Services division, supporting the organization’s core mission through the meticulous and conscientious manufacturing, processing, and testing of blood products. This role is vital to ensuring the safety and availability of blood and blood components for patients in hospitals and healthcare settings. As a QC Lab Technologist, you will perform a range of laboratory procedures varying from basic to advanced tests, including the preparation of pathogen-reduced platelet products. Your work will be conducted in a highly regulated environment, requiring adherence to strict quality and safety standards.
The position demands a keen eye for detail, the ability to interpret complex test results, and a strong commitment to customer service that extends to internal teams, healthcare providers, and patients alike. The role requires skilled prioritization of workload to meet production and customer demands, management of product quality, rigorous quality control on reagents, equipment, and test kits, and participation in troubleshooting efforts as part of cross-functional teams. The QC Lab Technologist ensures that blood products meet all quality requirements before release, thus directly impacting patient care outcomes.
This opportunity offers a standard schedule from Friday through Tuesday, 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, with a competitive pay rate of $24.97 per hour plus applicable shift differentials. There is a required full-time day shift training period lasting approximately four to six weeks, Monday through Friday. The role is suitable for candidates with an Associate or Bachelor's degree in applied science or related fields, paired with significant experience in laboratory or manufacturing environments. Certifications such as MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) are considered valuable assets, and candidates with these qualifications may require less experience.
Beyond the technical responsibilities, the American Red Cross supports its team with comprehensive benefits, competitive compensation, and an inclusive culture that respects work-life balance and promotes professional development. This role provides an excellent pathway for individuals who wish to contribute to a cause bigger than themselves, making their career a true force for good.
