Job Description
West Seattle Thriftway is a locally owned and operated grocery store situated in the vibrant community of Morgan Junction. As a neighborhood staple, the store prides itself on fostering a team culture centered around a shared passion for high-quality food and exceptional customer service. The store maintains a strong connection to its local community, offering a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where both customers and employees feel valued. West Seattle Thriftway operates as a UFCW Local 3000 shop, which underlines its commitment to fair labor practices and quality working conditions.
The current opportunity invites candidates to join this dynamic team in a role focused on food preparation and customer interaction, particularly in the cafe area of the store. The position involves preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, and teas. Additionally, the role requires the preparation and serving of food items such as soups, sandwiches, and pastries, ensuring all products meet company recipe and quality standards.
This role emphasizes the use of coffee equipment such as espresso machines, grinders, and brewers, requiring technical proficiency and attention to detail to maintain the quality and consistency expected by customers. Responsibilities also include restocking necessary supplies, like cups, lids, coffee beans, syrups, and pastries, and maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized cafe environment. The position demands the ability to multitask efficiently, serving customers promptly even during peak times, and handling transactions via the point-of-sale (POS) system.
Applicants should be prepared to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings starting at 4 am and weekends as needed, reflecting the operation hours of the store and customer demand. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods. The role also involves assisting with opening and closing tasks, such as setup, cleaning, and conducting inventory duties.
West Seattle Thriftway offers attractive wages based on experience and provides a comprehensive benefits package including low-cost medical, dental, and vision insurance. Employees also benefit from life and disability insurance, pension plans, 10% employee discounts, incentive programs, and a 401K plan without a company match. Paid time off benefits encompass vacation, birthdays, holidays, and sick leave. The store promotes a flexible work schedule to accommodate the diverse needs of its staff.
The hiring process complies with Seattle's Fair Chance Employment Ordinance, ensuring a fair review of background checks related to conviction and arrest records. Candidates are given the opportunity to explain or provide information regarding their background, with job offers contingent upon these reviews. This demonstrates the store's commitment to equitable employment opportunities and community integrity.
