Job Description

J&P Hospitality/Asset Management is a distinguished company operating within the hospitality industry, specializing in managing hotel properties to ensure exceptional guest experiences and optimal property operations. Known for their commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, J&P Hospitality/Asset Management strives to create welcoming environments that reflect their high standards in hospitality management.

The company manages various facets of property operations, focusing not only on the guest-facing aspects but also on maintaining and preserving the facilities and grounds to the highest standards. Their team is dedicated to continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and providing exceptional service in all areas of their hotel properties.

The Public Spaces Attendant (Custodian) role is a vital part of J&P Hospitality/Asset Management's Property Operations department. This position reports directly to the General Manager and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), with on-site work location and no direct reports. The attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the hotel’s public areas, laundry facilities, and exterior grounds, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for guests and staff alike.

The position’s responsibilities include routine cleaning and sanitizing of lobbies, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, and other shared spaces, contributing to the overall guest experience with a pristine and hospitable atmosphere. The role supports housekeeping operations by assisting in laundry processes, such as washing, drying, and folding linens, and helps prepare guest rooms for check-in. It also involves upkeep of exterior grounds by picking up litter, emptying waste receptacles, cleaning the dumpster area, and sweeping entryways, directly impacting curb appeal and property image.

In addition to custodial duties, the attendant monitors common areas for safety hazards and promptly reports any issues to management. This vigilance ensures proactive maintenance of the property and helps prevent potential accidents or guest dissatisfaction. The role requires readiness to respond in emergency situations like fire alarms, water leaks, and electrical outages, supporting overall hotel safety and operational continuity.

The Public Spaces Attendant must use cleaning products and equipment safely and properly, adhering strictly to training and safety guidelines. Light maintenance duties are also part of the job scope, such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and resetting breakers when trained to do so. Flexibility and a willingness to perform other assigned tasks are essential to meeting the dynamic needs of hotel property operations.

This position is suited for individuals who take pride in maintaining a professional appearance, demonstrate punctuality and dependability, and are willing to work scheduled shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility for additional coverage as needed. Effective communication skills, a respectful attitude towards guests and colleagues, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team are crucial attributes for success in this role.
