Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum 1 year experience in security, public safety, or related area responding to emergent situations
- Ability to obtain Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) within 2 years
- NIMS Compliance Certification
- Possess FOID card or CCW license and able to obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days of hire
- Stop the Bleed Certification within 1 year
- Valid driver’s license
- Certification in Conducted Energy Weapon use
- Ability to carry department authorized firearm and maintain required training
- Successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical and psychological assessments
- Completion of Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations
- Physical ability to walk, stand, lift 35 lbs, and operate firearms safely
- Strong awareness of street drugs, gang activity, and human trafficking
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in security, public safety, or customer service involving emergent situations
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) within two years of appointment
- NIMS Compliance Certification
- Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license
- Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon use within 90 days of hire
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication
- Ability to use computer software for documentation
- Experience assessing dangerous situations and exercising mature judgment
Job Duties
- Provide security services with a customer-service approach focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion
- Maintain alertness and ethical behavior, comply with safety and security regulations, and keep uniform and equipment in good repair
- Conduct interior and exterior patrols, perform inspections for vulnerabilities and hazards, manage patient valuables, and conduct contraband searches
- Respond to workplace violence, combative or threatening individuals, and other emergency situations
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and authorized use of force including conducted energy weapons and handcuffing
- Investigate incidents on hospital property, complete accurate reports, and address complaints
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, coordinate prisoner patient guards, and participate in security education and training
- Assist with traffic and crowd control and conduct community-oriented patrolling
