Hannaford Supermarkets currently seeks a motivated and customer-focused individual to join their team at the Schenectady, New York location as a Cashier/Service Associate. This role is part of the retail operations team responsible for delivering excellent customer service while ensuring the efficient, accurate processing of transactions at the point of sale. The Cashier/Service Associate will uphold company policies regarding safety, security, and cash handling, while maintaining a clean and pleasant service environment. This position requires individuals to be attentive to detail, report maintenance issues promptly, and comply with all regulatory requirements. Frequent interaction with customers will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a welcoming shopping experience.
With a salary range between $16.00 and $22.30 per hour, the role offers competitive hourly wages for a position that is vital in maintaining the store's frontline operations. The Cashier/Service Associate will not only process routine transactions but also handle special transactions such as WIC, coupons, gift cards, refunds, lottery tickets, and more, all while adhering strictly to company and legal standards. Additionally, the position requires the associate to be physically fit to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting and other physical tasks as necessary. Job Requirements
- Stand 100% of the time with occasional walking short distances
- Use hands to frequently/continuously handle currency and operate equipment
- Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally
- Push or pull up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
- Meet established volume activity standards for the position
- Have sufficient visual acuity to check IDs, checks, invoices, and other documents
- Greet all customers and provide prompt, courteous service
- Provide outstanding, friendly customer service
- Record (scan) purchases efficiently and accurately
- Collect money in form of cash, checks or electronic funds and tender accurate change
- Provide refunds in accordance with standard practice
- Must meet physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations
- Follow Anti-Money Laundering guidelines while processing Western Union, Money Orders, Prepaid Cards and Check Cashing

Job Duties
- Observe and follow all company policies and established procedures
- Clean Service Desk/Kiosk
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and follow company personal appearance policy
- Assist in special projects and perform other functions as assigned by supervision
- Work within our company's management planning (MPP) guidelines to maintain productivity
- Support and comply with all company's safety standards and communicate any needed equipment repairs or maintenance work
- Keep work area free from debris and safety hazards
- Treat all associates with fairness, dignity, and respect
- Perform accurate price check functions
- Control excessive use of store supplies such as ribbons, receipt tape, bags, and cleaning materials
- Record any price discrepancies and/or 'not on file' items and request price checks promptly
- Verify all customer IDs and observe store policies on acceptance of checks and the sale of tobacco/alcoholic beverages
- Adhere to company policy pertaining to excessive cash in registers and request cash pickups accordingly
- Observe security standards, stay alert and report any abnormal behavior
- Process all types of transactions accepted by the store including cash, checks, authorized accounts receivable sales, electronic payments, WIC, coupons, gift cards, bottle credits, refunds, lottery, Western Union etc.
- Secure register at all times when unattended and protect company assets
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order and report problems immediately
- Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards regularly
- Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize produce merchandise and differentiate between varieties
- Frequently perform cashier and/or service associate functions
- Perform other duties as assigned
