Job Description
Hannaford Supermarkets is a respected name in the grocery retail industry, with a history dating back to 1883 when it began as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine. Over more than a century, Hannaford has evolved into a major supermarket chain known for its dedication to local sourcing, sustainability, and community engagement. The company prides itself on its Local program, which supports farmers and producers in the region by promoting local foods, preserving farmland, and sustaining local jobs. Hannaford has also set industry standards by becoming the first major supermarket in the United States to certify that all its seafood products are sustainably harvested. This commitment to quality and local sourcing reflects the values at the core of Hannaford’s identity, positioning it as a forward-thinking and responsible retailer in the grocery sector.
The role available is for a supervisory position within the Non-Foods/Specialty Foods department at the Chelmsford, Massachusetts Hannaford location. This is an hourly wage position with a salary range from $17.60 to $26.20 per hour, offering a competitive pay scale aligned with responsibilities and experience. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the department’s appearance, product quality, variety, and safety meet Hannaford’s high standards consistently. This position demands someone who can effectively lead a team, foster a culture that supports company strategy, and deliver exceptional customer service. Supervising associates, facilitating efficient operations, and actively contributing to departmental sales growth through smart merchandising are vital components of this role.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the duties of associates in the Non-Foods and Specialty Foods sections, ensuring excellent customer relations and service, and managing the delegation of tasks for efficient workflow. The supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures, tracking production metrics, and ensuring strict adherence to food safety standards. Physical demands of the job require lifting up to 60 lbs occasionally, frequent walking and standing, and the ability to operate computers and communication devices as part of daily functions. This role suits candidates who are organized, possess strong communication skills, and have a hands-on approach to managing store operations and merchandising techniques.
Overall, this position offers a blend of leadership, operational oversight, and customer interaction in a dynamic retail environment. It is ideal for individuals passionate about grocery operations, committed to a high standard of customer service, and looking to contribute meaningfully to a well-established brand known for quality and community commitment.
