Job Description
Food Lion is a prominent grocery retail company that has been dedicated to serving communities with fresh, affordable, and convenient shopping experiences since its inception in 1957. Headquartered in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, Food Lion employs around 82,000 associates who collectively serve more than 10 million customers each week across ten states. Known for its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, Food Lion has established itself as a trusted and valued grocery store chain, renowned for its focus on easy access to quality foods, excellent customer service, and community engagement.
This particular role is based in Thomasville, North Carolina, at the Food Lion store located on 8275 South NC Highway 109 (Store Code 02596 Front End). The position falls under the Retail Operations category, specifically focusing on the Food Lion To-Go service area. The job type involves providing fast, friendly, flexible, and efficient service to customers, ensuring adherence to Food Lion’s customer service standards and operational procedures.
The primary purpose of this role is to assist the Food Lion To-Go Lead in maintaining and upholding high service and operational standards. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maximizing sales through outstanding customer service and efficient handling of customer orders, both in-store and for takeout via the To-Go service. Responsibilities include greeting customers warmly, providing personalized service by using customer names when possible, and engaging customers to ensure a positive shopping experience that reflects Food Lion’s core values and guiding principles.
The role also involves the ability to shop for multiple customer orders using designated tools and equipment, recognize and differentiate among types and varieties of fresh produce, and handle product substitutions as requested by customers. Attention to detail is critical, as the job requires scanning, bagging, and labeling purchases accurately and efficiently, while following company policies. The role requires verification of customer IDs and compliance with store policies related to the sale of alcoholic beverages. Additionally, the associate will assist customers in picking up orders and ensure complete accountability of the order process from start to finish.
Employees in this role are expected to demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward other associates while maintaining a neat and professional appearance by adhering to the Food Lion dress code and uniform policy. Cost control is another key component, as the position requires proper use of store supplies such as receipt tape, bags, and cleaning materials to manage expenses effectively. Adherence to all company guidelines, safety policies, and standard practices is mandatory. Employees must be vigilant in identifying and correcting unsafe conditions to prevent accidents and notify the Quality Assurance team regarding any cleaning or maintenance issues related to the To-Go area and equipment.
Training requirements include successful completion of Computer-Based Training (CBT) and other designated training courses. The job demands meeting physical requirements that involve bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods, occasionally in extreme temperature conditions. The physical demands come with the expectation to handle substances associated with cleaning, packaging, fresh produce, and household items safely.
Overall, this position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a team-oriented, customer-facing environment and are committed to providing outstanding grocery service while embodying the values and high standards of Food Lion. The company fosters an inclusive work culture, offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, or gender identity, ensuring a welcoming workplace for all associates.
