Job Description
Hannaford Supermarkets is a well-established retail grocery company that began its journey in 1883 as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine. Over the years, Hannaford has evolved into a major supermarket chain known for its strong connection to local markets and commitment to supporting local farmers and producers. This dedication to local sourcing not only helps preserve farmland and local traditions but also fosters community jobs and economic growth. Hannaford prides itself on being a pioneer in sustainability, famously becoming the first major supermarket in the United States to ensure all its seafood products were sustainably harvested, thus reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and quality product sourcing.
At Hannaford Supermarkets, the bakery department plays an integral role in delivering fresh, high-quality bakery products to customers. The company is currently seeking a dedicated Bakery Department Leader to join their team at Store 08192 in Dracut, Massachusetts. This is an hourly position with a competitive salary range from $17.60 to $26.20 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a respected supermarket brand while advancing a career in retail operations, specifically within the bakery sector.
The Bakery Department Leader acts as the key operational leader for the bakery when the department manager and assistant manager are absent. This position requires someone who is adept at managing retail operations according to established departmental practices, ensuring the efficiency and smooth functioning of the bakery. Responsibilities include compliance with company policies and government regulations, effective use of retail store systems such as Productivity Management, Scheduling, CAO, and RF units, and maintaining a respectful and professional work environment for all co-workers.
This role involves developing deep product knowledge in all areas of the bakery department, including rolls, desserts, cakes, muffins, bagels, coffees, and platters. The Bakery Department Leader also assists in training new associates, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the department meets or exceeds management planning guidelines. Personal appearance, clear communication throughout the department and organization, safety standards adherence, and food safety compliance are critical aspects of the role to ensure a pleasant customer experience and the well-being of team members.
Candidates for this role must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as repetitive motions, lifting weights up to 40 pounds occasionally, handling various cleaning and packaging materials, and working in temperature-controlled environments. Additionally, effective communication, customer service, and selling skills, combined with a desire to work collaboratively in a team environment, are essential to success in this position.
Preferred attributes for candidates include the ability to model outstanding customer service, supervise bakery associates effectively, employ sound judgment in task delegation, assist customers with product selection, and carry out specialized bakery tasks such as frosting and decorating cakes. Responsibility for inventory control, product display, record-keeping, and equipment sanitation are also vital duties that support the department's operational success.
Hannaford Supermarkets is an equal opportunity employer that fosters diversity and inclusivity, offering employment opportunities regardless of race, religion, color, sex, age, veteran status, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other legally protected characteristics. Joining Hannaford means becoming part of a team dedicated to community, sustainability, and excellent customer service.
