Job Description

Giant is a prominent and locally treasured grocery store chain that has proudly served the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area for over 88 years. Founded with its first store on Georgia Avenue, Giant has grown into the number one grocer in the Baltimore-Washington area with over 160 stores spanning across D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. This longstanding history and dedication to local communities define Giant as a trusted and beloved retailer that emphasizes not only delivering outstanding product quality but also forming partnerships with community organizations to enrich the lives of its neighbors. Giant's commitment extends beyond the aisles; it is invested in being a responsible corporate citizen fostering sustainable and healthy living choices for families it serves.

The Baker position at Giant is an essential role within the high-volume grocery store bakery that focuses on preparing, presenting, and innovating an extensive variety of baked goods. This role is centered around producing both classic favorites and new, creative offerings that enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. The Baker demonstrates strong expertise in executing baking recipes consistently while ensuring the aesthetics and quality of products meet rigorous standards. As a creative artisan and team contributor, the Baker works alongside the bakery team to manage production schedules efficiently, maintain fresh daily inventory, and adhere strictly to food safety and sanitation protocols. A crucial element of this role is the passion for delivering top-tier customer experiences through visually appealing, delicious, and high-quality bakery items.

Beyond the technical skills, the Baker acts as a brand ambassador who embodies the core values of Giant: caring deeply about people, delighting customers with innovative products, fostering a collaborative team environment, and achieving operational excellence. This includes preparing a diverse range of baked goods such as breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, and seasonal or specialty items following standardized recipes and adjusting processes to meet evolving customer demand and inventory needs.

Giant offers a supportive workplace culture anchored in principles of growth, care, and belonging. Bakers joining Giant benefit from a comprehensive compensation package with an hourly wage ranging from $17.00 to $20.00 and access to considerable growth opportunities such as tuition reimbursement, leadership development, and career advancement. The company emphasizes work-life balance with flexible retail scheduling that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Employees also receive robust benefits including healthcare, life insurance, wellness programs, a 401k plan with company contributions, paid time off, employee assistance programs, and community engagement initiatives.

Working at Giant means joining a team that values its associates as much as its customers, offering an environment that nurtures professional and personal development while honoring the rich legacy of over eight decades. Food makes Giant a grocery store, but its people make Giant a Giant community.
