With over 160 stores spread across Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware, Giant is deeply rooted in the communities it serves. The company is committed to more than just providing groceries; it aims to be a valued community partner. Giant supports various local organizations and initiatives with the shared goal of enriching the lives of its neighbors and being recognized as the most trusted and beloved local food retailer. The company culture emphasizes growth, care, and belonging among its associates, with numerous professional development opportunities, comprehensive benefits, and community engagement programs.
The Bakeoff Assistant role at Giant offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about baking and customer service to contribute to a top-tier retail environment. This position is primarily focused on supporting the Baker in creating, preparing, and showcasing an array of baked goods including breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty seasonal items. The role requires a strong knowledge of baking recipes and techniques, ensuring that every product meets the high standards of quality, taste, and visual appeal that customers expect from Giant. The Bakeoff Assistant is instrumental in maintaining fresh daily inventory and adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation regulations, making a significant contribution to the store's operational excellence.
The ideal candidate for this position will bring enthusiasm for baking as well as a customer-first mindset, aiming to deliver a delightful shopping experience with every interaction. The role involves hands-on preparation, decoration, and occasional customer order taking, making it essential to have effective communication skills and a commitment to outstanding service. The position demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods and lift weights up to 25 pounds. As part of the retail schedule, flexibility is also important since working evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Furthermore, Giant fosters a sense of belonging among its employees through Business Resource Groups, rewards and recognition programs, community outreach, and volunteer opportunities.
