Job Description

Dean Transportation is a reputable provider of school bus transportation services, dedicated to ensuring the safe and reliable travel of students and passengers throughout Michigan. The company operates multiple operation centers across the state, offering services that emphasize safety, compliance, and efficiency. Known for its commitment to quality service and community involvement, Dean Transportation plays a vital role in managing and delivering student transportation solutions with a focus on safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. They employ a highly skilled team of drivers, aides, and office staff to effectively coordinate and control transportation logistics under strict regulatory standards and corporate policies.

The Provisional Transportation Manager position at Dean Transportation is a critical role that involves promoting safe and reliable transportation by providing support, direction, and oversight to drivers, aides, and office staff at various operational locations throughout the state. This position generally operates on an interim or transitional basis, overseeing local offices during supervisory leave, office conversions, or training implementations. The manager is responsible for facilitating strong communication between local and corporate offices, ensuring local staff adhere to corporate procedures and safety regulations, and assisting with the implementation of new technology and corporate policies.

Key responsibilities include on-site supervision, facilitating employer and employee relationships, conducting safety and compliance reviews, coordinating conversion projects, and representing the company at public events such as pre-bid meetings, trade shows, and special events. The role requires active interaction with customer relations by controlling quality, following up on incidents, and providing support during meetings and reviews.

Supervising and evaluating staff performance, advocating for the company’s values, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations are essential components of this role. The position also requires occasional travel within the regional service area.

Additionally, the role demands physical ability appropriate for a school bus transportation environment, including lifting and maneuvering wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. The candidate must maintain professionalism, adhere to safety guidelines, and be familiar with the rules and regulations governing school bus transportation.

This role requires meeting a variety of specific requirements, including a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in the transportation or school bus industry, prior management experience, passing driving and criminal history checks, and successfully completing the Dean Transportation School Bus Driver Training Program and Michigan School Bus Driver Certification Requirements. The Provisional Transportation Manager thus ensures that all staff operate within the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and operational excellence while fostering a positive and efficient work environment across Dean Transportation’s regional operations.
