Job Requirements

  • education equivalent to a four-year college degree in public relations, communications, business, hospitality management or related field
  • one to three years of experience in event management and marketing including planning and managing special events
  • proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and presentation software
  • knowledge of payment processing software
  • valid vehicle operator's license with eligibility under MSU's driver certification policy
  • ability to work scheduled hours including some evenings and weekends
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree in public relations, communications, business, hospitality management or related area
  • one to three years of related and progressively more responsible experience in event management, marketing or related fields
  • experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing or presentation software
  • valid vehicle operator's license with eligibility to drive university vehicles
  • excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • convention industry council certification such as certified meeting professional designation is preferred
  • design skills in publisher, canva or similar software is desirable

Job Duties

  • provide facility coordination and on-site management
  • provide sales tours with prospective clients
  • secure and process payments
  • prepare, issue and update contracts and publications
  • communicate with clients and vendors throughout the planning process
  • develop event layouts with clients
  • manage existing and new revenue-generating garden-hosted events including logistics, agendas and layouts
  • arrange for speakers and make travel arrangements
  • provide communication and marketing support
  • assist with solicitation of sponsors, vendors and in-kind donations
  • prepare and assess budgets and evaluations
  • reconcile and prepare revenue and expense reports
  • design and develop promotional materials including website and social media updates
  • manage student and temporary employees
  • manage membership and commemorative brick programs
