Job Description

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has been the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service since 1981, actively collaborating with the Presidio Trust, donors, community members, and other partners to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). This vast and iconic park stretches across three Bay Area counties both north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge, encompassing notable landmarks such as Muir Woods National Monument, Alcatraz Island, Fort Point National Historic Site, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco. The Parks Conservancy operates at the intersection of national park sites, local communities, social justice, and climate resilience. Its staff serve as park builders, caretakers, ambassadors, and educators, dedicated to enhancing public awareness and providing varied volunteer and educational opportunities in the parks. The organization's guiding vision is "Parks for All Forever", emphasizing a commitment to inclusivity and lasting stewardship of natural and historic resources.

Within the Parks Conservancy, the Facilities & Fleet team functions as part of the Operations branch and is tasked with comprehensive management of the organization's facilities and fleet of vehicles. Working in close collaboration with the National Park Service, the Presidio Trust, and the Golden Gate Bridge District, the Facilities team oversees maintenance, capital construction, and operational readiness of around 24 buildings located throughout San Francisco and Marin counties. These facilities are diverse and categorized into revenue-generating sites, program service locations, and administrative spaces.

The Project Manager, Facilities, is a critical position within the Operations Branch responsible for leading the project management efforts across this wide-ranging portfolio of parks-related facilities. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities and Fleet, the Project Manager takes charge of mid-to-large scale facilities and operations projects focusing on utilities, infrastructure, technology enhancements, and general project oversight. The position requires managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring seamless coordination among internal branches and external park partners. Projects span iconic locations like Alcatraz and Muir Woods and demand a balancing of historic preservation requirements with modern operational standards.

Ideal candidates for this role must exhibit strong collaborative leadership skills, fostering a culture committed to safety, inclusivity, and accessibility. This position requires a high level of adaptability, active listening, and empathetic communication to engage effectively with diverse teams throughout the Parks Conservancy. A passion for proactive facilities management paired with an understanding of how effective facilities contribute to employee empowerment and the organization’s broader mission is paramount. The Project Manager will also advocate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles within Operations Branch leadership, ensuring consistent alignment with organizational values.

The role demands expertise in project management principles, construction oversight, budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory compliance, especially around environmental and historic preservation standards. The Project Manager is responsible for liaising with contractors, coordinating with design and manufacturing resources, and overseeing project delivery from inception through closeout. Additionally, the manager assures thorough communication with all involved parties to minimize disruptions and optimize project outcomes. This position blends office-based planning and fieldwork throughout park locations, offering a dynamic work environment that combines administrative tasks with site assessments.

This full-time position requires at least three days per week on-site presence at the Fort Mason office or various park sites within the Bay Area, with a total commitment of 40 hours per week. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and offers a competitive salary of $97,500 annually (Grade 22), with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision plans, paid time off, retirement contributions, and commuter benefits. The Parks Conservancy is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive hiring practices and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the stewardship and enhancement of beloved park spaces within the Bay Area while working alongside a dedicated and passionate team.
