Job Requirements
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
- Two (2) years full-time experience or its equivalent of recreation experience relevant to the area of assignment
- Appropriate clearances from background check/fingerprinting including documentation of a negative skin test for TB within the last two (2) years is required upon hire
- At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment
- California Class C driver's license may be required if driving personal or City vehicle as part of job duties
- First Aid and CPR/AED certifications
- Aquatics position requires current American Red Cross certifications or equivalent in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards
Job Qualifications
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

- Knowledge of techniques of leading and overseeing daily program participants and activities
- Practices of supervising and training lower-level Recreation Leaders and volunteers
- Safety principles and practices, including basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods
- Basic safety precautions and procedures related to recreation program area(s) and facilities
- Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work
- Safe work practices, including safe driving rules and practices
- English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation
- Techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socio-economic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the City in contacts with the public
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff
Job Duties
- Assists with the planning, coordination, and implementation of youth and adult sports leagues, classes, camps, and special events
- Supervises participants, volunteers, coaches, and/or officials during programs and events to ensure safety and program quality
- Supports facility and program operations, including participant check-in, equipment setup and breakdown, and facility preparation
- Assists with program evaluations, goals and objectives, activity/facility scheduling and exposure to some program budget development
- Provides excellent customer service by assisting participants, parents, and the public with questions, concerns, and program information
- Analyzes program needs and program participation, facility needs and provides input on new or enhanced sports programming opportunities
- Provides feedback regarding program goals and objectives, budget development and activity schedules
- Develops and distributes promotional and marketing information sports programs
- Assists the public with questions and problems
- Opens, closes, secures and maintains a safe program environment and facility
- and conducts safety checks
- Maintains program records, attendance logs, and prepares attendance reports
- Attends mandatory pre-service and in-service trainings and meetings
- Uses standard office practices and procedures, including basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work
- Administers first aid as required
- handles emergency or extraordinary situations by notifying the proper authority or responder
- Reports incidents/accidents
- Performs other duties as assigned
