Job Description

Fresh Air Camps is a renowned non-profit organization that has been dedicated to providing enriching summer camp experiences for children since 1877. Located in the picturesque Hudson Valley, New York, the organization operates six residential camps designed to offer a variety of unique programs that cater to different age groups and interests. With a commitment to fostering personal growth, leadership development, and experiential education, Fresh Air Camps focuses on creating a transformative environment where children can explore nature, build confidence, and develop valuable life skills. The camps emphasize inclusivity, community, and the holistic development of campers, making it a respected and trusted name in the summer camp landscape for over 1.8 million children who have benefited from its programs throughout its long history.

The role of Camp Program Director at Fresh Air Camps is an excellent opportunity for individuals with prior camp experience who are looking to take on a leadership position within a supportive and impactful community. Program Directors are pivotal in managing the day-to-day operations of specific camper programs within the camp. They are entrusted with supervising a staff of 10-15 members, overseeing program schedules, and ensuring the smooth execution of a wide range of activities tailored to the campers' developmental needs. Reporting directly to the Camp Director, Program Directors help shape a positive and safe camp environment while fostering the growth and success of the campers and staff alike.

The position requires living onsite at camp for the full summer season, from June 11 to August 15, 2026, and includes semi-private adult housing accommodations. Compensation ranges from $3,000 to $3,800 for the summer, making it a rewarding and immersive professional experience. Multiple Program Director roles are available, each focused on different aspects of the camp's programming, including the Teen Program Director, Director of Specialists, and CIT Director. These roles emphasize leadership in areas such as teen leadership development, managing specialist staff and daily programming schedules, and mentoring Counselors-in-Training (CITs) through training and hands-on experience.

Fresh Air Camps is a community committed to safety, inclusivity, and leadership development. The Program Director position offers a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to a vibrant summer camp setting while gaining valuable management experience. This role is perfect for candidates passionate about youth development and looking to make a difference in the lives of young campers in a beautiful, natural setting.
