Job Description
Fresh Air Camps is a renowned organization with a longstanding history dating back to 1877, committed to providing transformative summer camp experiences for children. Located in the scenic Hudson Valley of New York, the organization operates six residential camps that serve over 1.8 million children over the years. These camps offer a variety of unique programs tailored to different age groups and interests, including outdoor adventures, arts, and sciences, all aimed at fostering personal growth, leadership, and community engagement. The camps are set in beautiful natural surroundings, making them ideal for exploration, learning, and building lifelong memories. Fresh Air Camps is dedicated to offering enriching environments not only for campers but also for its staff, creating opportunities for professional and personal development as part of its summer program and year-round initiatives. The organization also embraces diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds to apply and contribute to its mission.
The role of Camp Program Director at Fresh Air Camps is a vital leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of specific camper programs during the six-week summer season from June 11 to August 15, 2026. These positions require living onsite at camp, with semi-private adult housing provided, ensuring that directors are fully immersed in the camp community and can effectively support both campers and staff. Compensation ranges between $3,000 to $3,800 for the summer. Program Directors report directly to the Camp Director and are tasked with managing a staff team of 10-15 people, organizing activities, and maintaining smooth program operations to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally enriching experience for campers.
Several Program Director roles are available, including Teen Program Director, Director of Specialists, and CIT Director. Each role serves a specialized function within the camp structure: the Teen Program Director leads the Teen Leadership Program focused on teenagers aged 13-17, emphasizing personal development and goal attainment; the Director of Specialists manages the scheduling and supervision of specialist staff and program activities to ensure high-quality educational experiences; the CIT Director mentors Counselors-in-Training, facilitating training sessions, evaluations, and ongoing leadership development. These positions require prior camp experience and leadership skills, offering candidates a unique chance to deepen their involvement in camp program design and leadership. This role is particularly well-suited for candidates who have experience in residential camp settings and supervisory roles, are committed to living onsite for the summer, and who are passionate about youth development and experiential education.
