Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • two years' experience working with camp or program coordination
  • experience in nonprofit or school environment
  • ability to pass background checks
  • pass a drug test if required by camp accrediting bodies
  • become CPR/First Aid certified to maintain camp license status
  • clear communication skills
  • excellent organizational skills
  • physical stamina for standing and walking outdoors for extended periods including at high altitude
  • able to carry boxes weighing up to 40 pounds short distances with or without assistance

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • two years' experience working with camp or other program coordination, such as retreats or outdoor education
  • experience working in a nonprofit organization and/or school environment
  • experience working with gifted children or in social-emotional learning/support is a plus
  • excellent organizational skills
  • clear communication skills
  • comfortable with mindfulness practices and ways of supporting children with anxiety
  • skilled with Microsoft Office
  • ability to adapt and be flexible under changing circumstances
  • creative problem-solving skills
  • a passion for the well-being of gifted children
  • physical stamina needed to set up, facilitate, and tear down camp

Job Duties

  • Believe in and work towards actualizing the mission of IEA
  • coordinate, develop, and implement sleepaway summer camp programs for gifted youth
  • adhere to a structured timeline throughout the year to stay on-track for summer programming deadlines and tasks, such as processing applications, tracking payments, organizing camper data, and making programmatic decisions
  • travel to camp locations each summer for approximately 10 days at a time and be on-call 24 hours a day during camp
  • assist with other IEA programs and events throughout the year, such as supervising students in onsite programming, staffing organization-wide fundraising events, administrative support, and serving on IEA committees as needed
  • support the recruitment of qualified campers from diverse backgrounds by aiding marketing and outreach initiatives and keeping website language up-to-date
  • maintain positive relationships with the community and provide timely communication with parents, colleagues, and camp staff
  • lead a team of adult staff members during camp and the spring planning weekend to keep the team aligned with IEA mission and policies
  • recruit and support the onboarding of summer staff including camp counselors and adult staff in addition to implementing training agenda and material
  • work in collaboration with camp host-sites and out-of-state vendors to coordinate programming and travel logistics for the week of camp
  • work with Program Manager to make decisions about camper support and behavior, contacting parents if necessary according to IEA procedures
