This position involves supervising the Paint Shop within GA-ASI's manufacturing and assembly areas. The role requires developing schedules and implementing daily work activities to maintain efficient and high-quality production and repair operations. The Paint Shop Supervisor coordinates the flow of products through various phases, ensuring that all processes are aligned with company standards and operational goals. This position demands a thorough understanding of both general and technical aspects of painting and coating applications in an aerospace manufacturing setting.

The Paint Shop Supervisor leads and mentors a team of painters and technicians, providing guidance and coaching to ensure productivity and quality standards are met. Responsibilities include preparing detailed work assignments, scheduling shifts, and overseeing timekeeping accuracy. The supervisor plays a crucial role in examining items and equipment requiring repair, offering clear instructions to restore them to a serviceable condition. Collaboration with engineering teams, quality assurance, and planning personnel is essential to resolve design and documentation issues and to optimize process flows.

This role involves analyzing work orders and blueprints to determine materials, operations, and sequencing requirements. The Paint Shop Supervisor monitors the usage and supply of production materials and tools, ensuring the timely reorder of stock to prevent shortages. Close communication with production control is necessary to maintain seamless operations. In addition to daily operational duties, the supervisor formulates and recommends plans, policies, and procedures to enhance Paint Shop performance.

Continuous improvement is a key aspect of this role, seeking innovative methods to improve product quality, workflow repeatability, and operational efficiency. The supervisor evaluates work standards and performance to maintain proper staffing levels and ensure uniform effectiveness. Inspection of work in progress and finished products falls within the supervisor’s responsibilities, along with recommending improvements to production methods and equipment performance. Interviewing and selecting prospective Paint Shop Technicians, as well as overseeing their training, qualifications, and certifications, are also vital components of the role.

The position requires ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, promoting a safe and productive workplace environment. The Paint Shop Supervisor is expected to lead by example, encouraging safety-first behaviors and adhering to established operational procedures. Occasionally, this role may involve interfacing with outside vendors and sales representatives to stay up to date with new products and service innovations. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the business and the Paint Shop's operational goals.

Job Requirements

  • six or more years of progressive professional experience in a related technical field

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Supervises painters and technicians through all phases of production and repairs in accordance with established schedules
  • offers guidance and coaching to manufacturing personnel
  • schedules and coordinates work assignments
  • ensures accurate time charging
  • examine items and equipment needing repair and provide path forward with detailed instructions for returning items to serviceable condition
  • assists engineering staff to resolve design and documentation issues
  • interfaces with planning personnel in the generation of process flows, as well as with quality assurance personnel
  • analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required
  • monitors usage and supply of all production materials and tooling
  • reorders when necessary
  • interfaces with production control to help prevent material and equipment shortages
  • formulates and recommends plans, policies, procedures and schedules for the Paint Shop
  • seeks methods to improve product quality, repeatability and efficiency
  • evaluates work standards and performance levels ensuring uniformity, effectiveness and appropriate staffing levels
  • inspects work in progress and finished products
  • recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product
  • suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop
  • interviews prospective Paint Shop Technicians
  • responsible for training, qualification and certification when applicable
  • provides mentoring to employees in developmental stages
  • responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
  • expected to work and lead the workplace in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
  • may interface with outside vendors and sales representatives to stay current on new products and services
  • other duties as assigned or required
