Job Description
Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) is a well-established public school district located in the Houston metropolitan area of Texas. Renowned for its commitment to providing quality education and comprehensive support services to its diverse student population, SBISD is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, safe, and dynamic learning environment. The district prides itself on not only academic excellence but also on sustaining effective ancillary services that contribute to the overall well-being and development of students. Among these crucial support functions, the Food Service Department plays a pivotal role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals that meet established health standards and nutritional guidelines.
The Production Assistant - Food Service Worker position within Spring Branch ISD is classified under the Auxiliary (Skilled Labor) category and reports directly to the Federal Program Supervisor. This role is non-exempt and follows the district's Auxiliary Pay Plan under Pay Grade 301, with employment for 181 days per year. While no formal contract is required, the position demands a strong commitment to punctuality, reliability, and adherence to food safety and sanitation protocols. The Production Assistant is an essential team member tasked with food preparation, food service, storage, and maintaining cleanliness of food service areas. Candidates will work actively in a hands-on capacity to prepare meals timely, support the cashier operations, manage deposits, and ensure a safe working environment by following all safety and sanitation regulations.
Essential to this role is the ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive movements which make it a physically engaging job. The Production Assistant must demonstrate proficiency in reading and speaking English, basic math skills for handling cash transactions, and operate various kitchen and office equipment such as ovens, mixers, dishwashers, and calculators. Knowledge of the school lunch pattern and nutritional values is advantageous to maintain consistency with the district’s child nutrition standards. Moreover, the ability to pass Health Department sanitation training reflects the importance placed on food safety. This role requires a dependable individual with good personal appearance and hygiene who can work cooperatively in a team setting while supporting the department’s goals.
In addition to the routine duties such as food preparation and serving, managing financial records related to food sales, and supporting meal programs, this position presents an opportunity for candidates interested in contributing directly to the nutrition and wellness of students. The working environment includes exposure to varying temperatures, noise, chemical hazards, and the need for safety awareness around machinery and slippery surfaces. Emotional control under stress, willingness to handle frequent interruptions, and positive interaction with the public are key for success in this role.
Spring Branch Independent School District values equal employment opportunities and complies with all legal protections under Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensuring a discrimination-free workplace based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, veteran status, or disability. Those interested in applying to join the SBISD team are encouraged to do so through the official application portal, reflecting both the district’s transparent recruitment process and commitment to workforce excellence.
