The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, based in Burlington, Vermont, is recognized as Vermont's creative heartbeat. Established as a statewide organization, the Flynn brings communities together by offering live performances, public programs, and shared cultural experiences that enrich lives and foster connection through the arts. The Flynn is currently seeking a Producer, a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position dedicated to producing some of the organization's most ambitious projects. As a senior project leader, the Producer holds significant responsibility for ensuring that initiatives meet their artistic goals and align seamlessly with the Flynn's overarching organizational strategy. This role is central in creating the context and environment that allow artists, audiences, and communities to fully engage with the work produced. With direct accountability to the General Manager and collaboration with artistic leaders including Programming, Education, festival curators, and guest artists, the Producer plays a critical role in delivering projects on campus and across Vermont.

The Producer's responsibilities are multifaceted. They act as the lead producer for large-scale, site-responsive outdoor projects and indoor festivals such as the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. They also lead the Flynn Breakthrough Program, encompassing commissions, residencies, public-space projects, and comprehensive artist support. This role demands a strong commitment to high production values across diverse venues, particularly for off-campus and site-responsive works, and requires meticulous budget management and oversight of contracts, permits, insurance, and vendor relationships. Furthermore, the Producer ensures legal and ethical compliance with artist contracting, including international artists who require visa and immigration support.

Collaboration is central to the Producer's role at the Flynn. They serve as the primary point of accountability for produced projects and coordinate across departments, including Programming, Marketing, Production, Box Office, Education, Development, and Operations. They partner with teams managing fundraising and sponsorships to support donor-facing initiatives while maintaining clear boundaries and responsibilities regarding producing roles.

As a director-level position, the Producer supervises a Producing Coordinator and temporary project staff, managing hiring, training, and oversight of project-based personnel, crew, and contractors. This role embodies the Flynn's values, particularly around diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, championing an inclusive workplace where all voices and identities are valued. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require work during evenings and weekends to meet the needs of live and public-space programming. The Producer's role is pivotal in steering artistic projects that not only entertain but also deeply engage and unify the Vermont communities served by the Flynn.
