The Produce Clerk role at Brookshire Grocery Company is crucial to maintaining product levels and ensuring quality control within the produce department. This position involves proudly upholding company standards for fresh fruit and vegetable displays while strictly adhering to food safety practices mandated by regulatory authorities. The Produce Clerk functions not only as a custodian of product freshness and quality but also plays an important part in promoting customer service excellence and boosting sales in the produce section.

This role requires individuals to continually stock produce displays to full capacity, prepare equipment for its operation, and maintain cleanliness and organizational standards, ensuring the department meets customer expectations for freshness and presentation. The Produce Clerk will be responsible for operating equipment such as manual or electric pallet jacks, unloading and reloading trucks, inspecting product quality, and appropriately rotating stock or discarding unsold items to maintain optimal product quality. Responsibilities also include collecting and disposing of waste materials according to company policy, assisting customers with inquiries and product locations, promoting products through suggestive selling, and maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.

The position demands working in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking skills, keen attention to potential hazards, and adherence to safety protocols, particularly when handling sharp tools or motorized equipment. The role involves physical tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, and operating machinery, all requiring a mindful approach to personal safety. Successful candidates will be 16 years or older (with operators of motorized equipment needing to be at least 18), must obtain a Food Handler certification, and should be prepared to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
