The role of a Produce Team Supervisor is integral to the operational excellence and customer satisfaction within the company’s produce department. This position involves scheduling and supervising team members, ensuring the department runs smoothly, and upholding compelling displays for produce, coffee, and juice. Serving as a support system to the Produce Team Leader and Associate Team Leader, the supervisor contributes to building a high-performance team culture through effective training, delegation, and motivation. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and organization of all produce cases and shelves, ensuring timely opening and closing of the department, and enforcing company policies and health regulations. Team Members in this role are expected to cultivate a positive work environment characterized by outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale. Customer service excellence is emphasized, with supervisors maintaining awareness of customer needs and directing the team accordingly to ensure every customer interaction is positive and fulfilling. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • motion ability including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and cold environments
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery

Job Qualifications

  • 12+ months retail experience
  • extensive knowledge of Produce team procedures and policies
  • strong organizational and time management skills
  • excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
  • capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner
  • solid product knowledge
  • advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
  • proficient mathematical skills for financial performance assessment, profitability monitoring, and inventory management
  • demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate
  • proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to Produce Team Members
  • works with Produce Trainer to train Team Members to build and sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover
  • assists in training new Team Members using learning checklists and training materials
  • keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated
  • opens and closes the department according to established procedures
  • ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • communicates team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
  • sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • fosters a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and directs Team Members to satisfy and delight customers
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members
  • provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • consistently communicates and models Whole Foods Market vision and goals
