Job Description
The hiring establishment is a well-regarded grocery store known for its commitment to providing fresh, high-quality produce to its customers. As a staple in the community, this grocery store prioritizes customer satisfaction and the overall shopping experience in every department. The produce section, in particular, plays a critical role in delivering fresh fruits and vegetables that meet stringent quality standards. Maintaining an organized and visually appealing produce department is essential to the store's mission of encouraging healthy eating habits and ensuring customers have access to fresh and nutritious food every day.
This part-time role of Produce Clerk reports directly to the Store Director and is classified as a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The role centers on supporting the produce department by effectively stocking, rotating, and maintaining an extensive array of fruits and vegetables. Attention to detail is paramount to ensure that every item on the produce shelves remains fresh and appealing to shoppers. The Produce Clerk is responsible for inspecting produce quality to prevent expired or spoiled items from remaining on display, thereby maintaining the store's high standards for freshness and safety.
In addition to the hands-on tasks of handling and preparing produce, this position requires strong communication skills to assist customers in selecting the right products and offering helpful recommendations. The Produce Clerk must also ensure that displays are aesthetically arranged to attract customers while supporting front-end staff when necessary. Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards is a vital requirement, ensuring the produce department complies with health regulations and maintains a safe, clean environment.
The job demands physical agility and stamina, as it involves standing and walking for long periods, bending, crouching, and manually handling produce items frequently weighing up to 50 pounds. The role requires the use of tools such as knives and cutters for trimming and preparing fruits and vegetables. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary since shifts may vary and include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime hours as needed to meet store demands.
Ideal candidates should possess a strong work ethic, demonstrate honesty and integrity, and have a positive attitude towards their work and coworkers. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members fosters a supportive work environment that enhances overall guest service. The Produce Clerk position is perfectly suited for individuals who are passionate about fresh food, enjoy a dynamic and fast-paced work setting, and strive to maintain high standards in their daily tasks.
If you want to contribute to a grocery store that values quality produce and excellent customer service, this Produce Clerk opportunity provides a meaningful and engaging part-time role. You will gain valuable experience in inventory management, customer interaction, and food safety practices while working in a stimulating and customer-focused environment.
