Job Description

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a renowned full-service acute-care hospital located in The Woodlands, Texas. Opened in June 2017, this state-of-the-art facility spans 725,000 square feet and delivers comprehensive healthcare services across a variety of specialties. Situated at the strategic intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, the campus encompasses two medical office buildings and numerous specialized centers including Breast Care, Cancer, Infusion, Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation, Wellness, and an outpatient laboratory. Additionally, the hospital hosts several multispecialty physician practices, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. In January 2022, Houston Methodist The Woodlands further expanded its capacity and capabilities with the launch of the Healing Tower, a significant $250 million project. This expansion added 106 beds focused on medical-surgical and women’s services, introduced nine new operating rooms, and extended key departments such as the endoscopy center, emergency department, and diagnostic imaging center. With an emphasis on neurodiagnostic and interventional procedures, the facility exhibits a strong commitment to advancing patient care through innovative technologies and comprehensive service offerings. As an equal opportunity employer, Houston Methodist is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment where healthcare professionals can thrive and deliver excellence.

The Endoscopy Technician I (Endo Tech) at Houston Methodist plays a pivotal role within the gastroenterology (GI) team by providing crucial support under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses and physicians. This position is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of GI endoscopy procedures by managing preparatory and post-procedural tasks, aiding in patient care before, during, and after procedures, and maintaining adherence to strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include assisting with room turnaround activities, proper cleaning and high-level disinfecting of endoscopes and accessory equipment, and ensuring that all supplies and tools are available, functional, and ready for use. The Endo Tech I is deeply involved in maintaining an organized departmental environment by restocking and cleaning procedure rooms and upholding department upkeep as delegated by licensed personnel.

In this role, individuals must demonstrate competency in utilizing electronic health records and related procedure databases to ensure accurate data entry and patient documentation. Effective communication skills are pivotal, enabling seamless interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and the multidisciplinary care team to promote a customer-service-focused atmosphere. The Endo Tech I is also tasked with supporting quality care delivery by managing specimens properly, reporting any deviations from hospital or departmental policies, and contributing to patient safety through peer accountability and minimizing risks. Time management and organization are vital as the position requires balancing multiple priorities with minimal supervision, optimizing workflow efficiency, and minimizing operational delays. Participating in ongoing learning and departmental projects is encouraged to foster continuous professional growth.

This is a non-exempt position requiring flexibility including on-call duties during emergencies. The role demands uniform adherence (scrubs) and does not necessitate business professional attire or travel beyond the Houston metropolitan area. Candidates should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of patient care experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with endoscopy or direct patient care exposure, and hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Houston Methodist The Woodlands offers a dynamic and supportive work environment that values teamwork, innovation, and quality healthcare delivery.
