Job Description

Charter Communications, known in the United States by its Spectrum brand, is a leading telecommunications company serving over 31 million customers across 41 states. With a strong workforce of approximately 95,000 employees, Spectrum offers a range of services including Spectrum Internet, TV, Mobile and Voice, Spectrum Networks, Spectrum Business, and Spectrum Reach. The company prides itself on innovation, customer service, and community impact, aiming to keep people connected to what matters most. Spectrum fosters an inclusive and supportive work culture, committed to equal opportunities for all employees and growth that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. The role of Principal Billing Software Engineer I at Spectrum is a high-impact leadership position within the technology division, focused on designing, developing, and integrating enterprise-scale billing and mediation systems for a large-scale service provider platform. This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer with a deep technical background in billing systems, API integration, event-driven architecture, and distributed system design. As a Principal Billing Software Engineer I, you will be responsible for leading a junior team of developers, driving design decisions, mentoring, and collaborating cross-functionally with architects, DevOps, QA, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and observable monetization platforms. Key responsibilities include developing APIs and microservices for billing event processing, normalizing data from diverse sources through mediation platforms, and engineering fault-tolerant workflows using AWS services such as SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB. You will also define architecture principles for integration and mediation, focusing on best practices like API versioning and error handling. The role demands hands-on expertise in technologies including TypeScript, Python, Kubernetes (EKS), and AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK). Spectrum values candidates with at least 8 years of software engineering experience, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and proficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies such as Angular, React, Java, Spring, and NoSQL databases. Candidates should be adept in delivering code with CI/CD processes, engage in strategic technology planning, and bring a hands-on leadership style essential for this role. Preferred qualifications include experience in telecommunications and digital platform monetization, familiarity with mediation platforms, and expertise with AWS observability tools like Datadog and Splunk. This full-time position supports a hybrid work model and offers a competitive salary range from $110,800 to $196,400, complemented by comprehensive benefits. Spectrum invites professionals passionate about innovation and leadership in billing systems engineering to apply and join a dynamic team shaping the future of telecommunications monetization.
