Starbucks is a globally recognized coffeehouse chain dedicated to inspiring and nurturing the human spirit one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time. Established as a leader in the food and beverage industry, Starbucks operates thousands of stores worldwide, offering a unique coffee experience combined with a warm and welcoming store environment. The company prides itself on its high standards of quality, customer service, and social responsibility, creating a culture where partners (employees) are valued, engaged, and empowered. Starbucks is committed to sustainability, ethical sourcing, and creating a positive impact in the communities it serves.
The General Manager (Store Manager) role at Starbucks is pivotal in driving the success of the individual store by leading a team of dedicated store partners to maintain the Starbucks Experience for customers and partners alike. This position requires a hands-on leader who regularly exercises discretion in managing the day-to-day operations of the store, with a heavy focus on people management, customer satisfaction, financial performance, and operational excellence. The store manager plays a crucial role in staffing decisions such as hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, and scheduling the workforce to ensure smooth and efficient operation. By fostering a positive team environment rooted in Starbucks' guiding principles, the store manager ensures both customers and partners enjoy an exceptional experience.
The General Manager is responsible for instilling a customer-first attitude in the team by delivering legendary customer service and effectively implementing company programs driven by strategic plans. They demonstrate integrity, honesty, and in-depth knowledge of Starbucks culture and values. The role includes planning operational strategies, communicating clearly with the team, managing labor and inventory tools for maximum efficiency, and ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws and all regulatory requirements. The manager also serves as a critical liaison with various departments within Starbucks such as Marketing, Asset Protection, and Food & Beverage, using resources to support store operations and regional initiatives.
Leadership and partner development are core aspects of this role. The General Manager coaches, motivates, and evaluates partners continually, setting challenging goals that push individuals and teams to excel in achieving business results. This role requires someone who can build strong, positive relationships with partners, addressing their needs and concerns with cultural sensitivity and effective management principles. Recognizing and rewarding team accomplishments is another key responsibility to maintain high morale and a supportive workplace environment.
Successful candidates will typically have a high school diploma or equivalent, preferably 2-3 years of Starbucks management experience, and 3-5 years in the food and beverage service industry, particularly within quick service restaurants (QSR). Open availability for all shifts, including weekends and holidays, is essential. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of profit and loss statements, experience managing operating costs, and knowledge of restaurant management software and POS systems. Computer literacy and food handler certification are required, as are physical endurance capabilities such as lifting up to 45 lbs. The ideal leader demonstrates excellent communication skills, organization, detail orientation, and above all, a genuine passion for developing others and ensuring 100% customer satisfaction.
This position offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for wild career growth alongside motivated, enthusiastic over-achievers. Joining Starbucks means embracing a culture that values passion, customer focus, and community impact, making it not just a job, but a fulfilling career path.
