The role of a Prepared Foods Team Member at Whole Foods Market is vital to maintaining our high standards for quality, customer service, and operational efficiency. The position involves performing a range of functions related to food preparation, merchandising, sanitation, and stocking across all prepared foods venues. Prepared Foods Team Members assist with production tasks such as preparing recipes accurately using correct measuring devices, labeling, dating, rotating, and covering prepared foods to ensure freshness and quality. They carefully document waste and spoilage, helping to manage inventory and reduce losses. An important aspect of this role is educating customers by explaining the distinct benefits of Whole Foods Market products compared to conventional grocery offerings, thereby fostering greater customer satisfaction and loyalty.
The work environment demands physical stamina, including standing or walking for six to eight hours daily, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and performing motions like bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching. Team Members must also be able to operate tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and potentially use ladders. The job requires working in varying temperature conditions, from freezers to refrigerators and ambient temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit, making flexibility and resilience crucial. Shifts can vary, including night, weekend, and holiday schedules.

Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Standing/walking for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
- Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- May require use of ladders
Job Qualifications
- No prior retail experience required
- Thorough product knowledge
- Ability to make an adequate number of recipes per shift based on batch size
- Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers
- Understand spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits
- Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members
- Ability to follow directions and procedures

Job Duties
- Assist with production for all prepared foods venues
- Ensure all prepared foods are properly labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated
- Ensure product meets Whole Foods Market guidelines for quality and preparation
- Document waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
- Ensure product production is performed using correct measuring devices and all recipes are followed
- Help customers understand the difference between Whole Foods Market products and products at conventional stores
- Ensure that walk-ins and freezers are kept clean and well-organized
- Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
- Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and model suggestive selling techniques
- Answer phones and pages promptly and courteously
