The role available at Whole Foods Market is an entry-level position within the Prepared Foods department and comes with a wage range of $17.00-$25.40 per hour, dependent on experience. This role focuses on performing functions related to food preparation, counter service, sanitation, and product stocking. Employees will assist with production across various Prepared Foods venues and perform accurate labeling, dating, and rotation of products to maintain freshness and safety compliance.

In this role, the team member will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in storage areas such as walk-in coolers and freezers, documenting spoilage and waste with attention to minimizing loss, and assisting customers by educating them on product differences compared to conventional grocery stores. The work environment emphasizes teamwork, communication, and maintaining the highest levels of food safety and sanitation. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk 6-8 hours per 8-hour workday
  • Ability to use hand motions including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Exposure to temperature ranges including freezing (<32 degrees Fahrenheit), refrigerated (32-40 degrees Fahrenheit), and hot (>90 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Flexible schedule availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders

  • No prior retail experience required
  • Thorough product knowledge
  • Ability to make an adequate number of recipes per shift based on batch size
  • Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers
  • Understands spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits
  • Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department

Job Duties

  • Assists with production for all Prepared Foods venues
  • Ensures all prepared foods are properly labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated
  • Ensures product meets WFM guidelines for quality and preparation
  • Documents waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
  • Ensures product production is performed using correct measuring devices and all recipes are followed
  • Helps customers understand the difference between WFM products and products at conventional stores
  • Ensures that walk-ins and freezers are kept clean and well-organized
  • Arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • Provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
