The position available is an entry-level role that involves performing various functions related to the preparation, counter service, sanitation, and stocking of products within the Prepared Foods department. This role is essential for ensuring that all prepared foods meet Whole Foods Market’s strict quality and safety guidelines. Team Members in this capacity are expected to provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and fellow Team Members, fostering a positive company image at all times. The job requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures to maintain consistency and uphold the brand’s quality standards. Key responsibilities include assisting with food production across all Prepared Foods venues, properly labeling and rotating products, documenting waste and spoilage, and maintaining clean and organized storage areas such as walk-ins and freezers. Additionally, this role involves supporting the education of customers by communicating the unique benefits and qualities of Whole Foods Market products compared to conventional stores. Team Members will be trained to use correct measuring devices to follow recipes precisely and are encouraged to engage in suggestive selling techniques to enhance the customer experience.
This role demands a strong work ethic, good communication, teamwork skills, and a passion for natural and wholesome foods. Candidates need not have prior retail experience but must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and using various tools and equipment safely. The position also requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
- Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
- Availability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- May require use of ladders
Job Qualifications
- No prior retail experience required
- Thorough product knowledge
- Ability to make an adequate number of recipes per shift based on batch size
- Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers
- Understands spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits
- Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members
- Ability to follow directions and procedures
- Effective time management and organization skills

Job Duties
- Assists with production for all Prepared Foods venues
- Ensures all prepared foods are properly labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated
- Ensures product meets WFM guidelines for quality and preparation
- Documents waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
- Ensures product production is performed using correct measuring devices and all recipes are followed
- Helps customers understand the difference between WFM products and products at conventional stores
- Ensures that walk-ins and freezers are kept clean and well-organized
- Arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
- Works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings
- Provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
- Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
