The role at Whole Foods Market carries the exciting responsibility of supporting the Prepared Foods team. This position involves various tasks such as food preparation, counter service, sanitation, and stocking products. Team Members in this role are expected to uphold a positive company image by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and fellow Team Members at all times. Adherence to the store's Standard Operating Procedures is critical to ensure consistency and quality across all operations. One of the unique aspects of this role is the expectation for Team Leaders to spend substantial time on the sales floor, actively engaging with customers, and stepping in wherever help is needed, promoting a teamwork-driven environment.

As a Prepared Foods Team Member, your day-to-day activities will include preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold foods such as meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salads, and pizza. You will also be involved in stocking displays, rotating products to ensure freshness, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. Task completion involves documentation such as spoilage, sampling, temperature checks, and periodic inventory assessments. Accuracy in signage and pricing is essential, alongside the vigilant reporting of any safety hazards observed during shifts.

Excellent customer service is a cornerstone of this role. You will be expected to respond promptly to customer needs, demonstrate suggestive selling techniques, and handle phone and paging duties with professionalism. Maximizing sales potential through proper prepping, storing, and merchandising of products is an ongoing priority. Compliance with health and safety regulations, Weights and Measures standards, and Whole Foods Market’s quality goals ensures a safe and high-standard shopping and working environment.

The position offers an hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $29.73, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market also offers a comprehensive benefits package called "Whole Benefits" which includes store discounts, paid time off, financial wellness programs, health and wellness support, and other team member perks. Eligibility for these benefits depends on several factors such as work location, length of service, and job type. Importantly, new Team Members who successfully complete their initial 90 days of employment may be eligible for a base rate increase, recognizing their commitment and contribution.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • must be able to stand or walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • must have hand use abilities including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • must be able to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • must be able to work with FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • must be able to tolerate exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • must be able to work in wet and dry conditions
  • must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • must be able to use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Cuts, prepares, and serves a variety of hot and cold foods including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salad, and pizza
  • samples products to customers
  • stocks hot and cold cases and displays with prepared foods from kitchen, walk-in preparation, and refrigerators
  • checks in-stock product dates to ensure freshness and rotates when necessary
  • bails and consolidates recyclables
  • assists Team Leader in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items
  • completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required
  • assists with periodic inventory checks
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies with established procedures including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
